FAQ
F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Jewlicious Questions
- WHO IS THE PROGRAM FOR?
You, of course. Whatever your connection to the Jewish people, whatever your observances. Jewlicious Festival gathers Jewish students and young professionals from across the Jewish spectrum and the Jewish world. From Secularists to Frummies, from Conservatives to Bu-Jews from Feministas to Republicans from Agnostics to Anarchists from I Dunno’s to I’ll Tell You’s. So if you have any connection to this tribe of wandering creative and uniquely Jewlicious people loosely affiliated under the Jewish banner, then we hope to see you.
- WHAT IS GOING ON?
Its a celebration of everything Jewish. A Gathering-Festival-Conference. Thats a lot of stuff. Jewlicious’s program is always happening. It never gets boring. Special guests (presenters, speakers, artists, musicians, panelists and the like) are listed in the blog and/or links section as they become confirmed on the schedule.
- WHEN IS THIS THING?
Jewlicious Festival is just around the corner. This gathering of the tribes, is February 19-21, 2010. Doors open Friday at noon. There will be food and things to do starting by 1pm, like baking challah, planning a movie, swimming, listening to music, planning a movie and so on.
- WHERE IN THE WORLD IS IT?
Jewlicious is returning to the very well located Alpert Jewish Community Center, 3801 E. Willow St, Long Beach, CA 90815, just off the 405 (Lakewood Exit) and next to Long Beach Airport. Click here to see a map on Google Maps, Mapquest will get you lost.
- WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
Gathering the tribe is fun in and of itself. But more than that, this is a chance to explore, celebrate, affiliate, investigate, all things Jewish. There is simply no other place where you can experience such a diverse collection of Jewish do’ers. We believe with all our soul and all our might in creating unifying events to celebrate Jewishness, in celebrating life and diversity, in learning from different people and experiencing different Jewish things as a way to enrich and fulfill our lives Jewishly.
- HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?
Pre-sale tickets for students cost $36 until Dec. 31, and $75 for non-students. After Dec. 31, tickets cost $75 and $120.
- WHERE DO WE SLEEP?
Jewlicious is one of the largest Jewish sleepovers that isn’t at a sleep-away camp. Everyone brings a sleeping bag, camping mat or air-mattress and pillow. We highly recommend bringing an air-mattress. If you have a van/camper please contact us ahead of time. There are also three hotels next to the Festival site, and at the Marriott Residence Inn we have a special rate. Last year groups of students rented rooms that way.
- WHERE DO WE PARK?
Due to the large number of participants, we ask that people try to carpool so we can have parking room for everyone and cut down on wasting fuel. Parking is first come first serve and is free.
- WHAT ABOUT THE FOOD?
OMG there is so much food. We believe that you can’t do anything Jewish without lots of good food. And refreshments. We mean good food, good coffee and teas, good Kiddush wines, and good bread. Great desserts too. We eat all the time, and there are options for those who don’t consume animals or milk and of course, its all Glatt kosher, under Strict Rebbitzin Supervision, and Supervised by Cal Kosher.
Specifically this year a Weekend Pass is good for meals on Friday Night, Saturday Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, and Sunday Breakfast. Other meals are available for a reasonable price@!
- WHO IS BEHIND THIS THING?
The Worldwide Jewlicious Conspiracy. The Protocols of the Jewlishessness. The Mossad, of course. JK! LOL!
Jewlicious Fest is a production of Beach Hillel, Jewlicious, and Jewish Student Services. Rachel and Rabbi Yonah Bookstein, who dreamed up this thing, have worked all over the Jewish world, from Cali to New York, from Oxford to Warsaw, from Jerusalem to Estonia. Our media and creative partners are Jewlicious.com. Funding to underwrite the program comes from local philanthropic families, including Barbara and Ray Alpert, Deanna and Allen Alevy, Jim and Liz Breslauer and the Breslauer Soref Foundation, and others.
- WHO IS PLANNING JEWLICIOUS?
A bunch of fun, overworked young people, students and recent grads, and our Jewlicious co-conspirators in New York, Montreal, and Jerusalem. We have a conference committee composed of over a dozen students and graduates from Long Beach, UCI, UCLA, SDSU, CSUN, CSUF, and many places in between, plus the staff of JConnect, Beach Hillel, Jewlicious.com, Jewish Student Services, the Ghetto Shul in Montreal. They meet nearly every week over chips and salsa for hours or on the phone in international conference calls.
- CAN I JUST COME FOR PART OF JEWLICIOUS?
Glad you asked. Jewlicious has a limited number of spaces/tickets for the entire weekend. If someone buys a ticket, we will provide food and a place to lay their sleeping bag for that person the whole weekend, plus the most unforgettable program they have ever experienced.
If you think you can only come for parts of the festivities, then buy a ticket, and make sure to come on Friday afternoon to get your festival pass. Without the pass, you don’t have access to the entire program, the health facilities, or the concerts.
- ARE TICKETS TRANSFERABLE?
Yes – you can resell them.
- WHAT IS THE SCHEDULE OF EVENTS?
Oy, so many questions! Just kidding. Details of what is happening are being posted regularly right here. The final program will be posted probably after the initial pre-ticket sales period is over. Many of our invited guests have busy schedules and we have to work around their lives. Most of the special guests will be here for the whole weekend, and some not.
